Getting to Kas by Bus
To reach Kas by bus you can use the buses running to Antalya or Fethiye that depart from almost every city in the country. In fact there are even buses running from big cities like Istanbul, Ankara, or Izmir directly to Kas. If demand increases in summer, the number of buses running to Kas also increases.
There are bus companies offering buses from Istanbul directly to Kas. A ticket on a Kamil Koc bus running from Istanbul to Kas via Fethiye and Kalkan costs 130 TL. This journey lasts 14-15 hours.
If you are unable to find a bus running directly to Kas you have two other options. First you can reach the Antalya bus station and take a smaller bus to Kas from there. The distance between Antalya and Kas is about 170 kilometers and takes about 3 hours. The first of these buses, found at the back of the bus station in the Regional Terminal, leaves at 7:00, with another departing each hour until 23:00.
As departure/return times can change, you should call to confirm before coming to the bus station. Especially in the busy summer months, making a reservation can prevent you from wasting time waiting later. There are a few companies offering buses to Kas. In addition to Antalya, you can also reach Kas via Mugla or Fethiye. The distance between Fethiye and Kas is 105 km, between Mugla and Kas is 228 km. A ticket for the bus running from Mugla to Kas costs 50 TL, from Fethiye to Kas costs 35 TL. The companies Kamil Koc, Bati Antalya, and Fethiye Seyahat offer buses from Fethiye to Kas every day.
Getting to Kas by Plane
The closest airport to Kas is Dalaman Airport. You can fly directly from Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Dalaman; flights take approximately 1.5 hours. Both Turkish Airlines and Pegasus offer daily direct flights to Dalaman.
You can reach Fethiye with one of the Havas buses outside the airport and hop on a minibus headed to Kas from there. The drive from Fethiye to Kas is approximately 110 km.
You can also fly into Antalya Airport. Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, and Sun Express offer flights from many Turkish cities to Antalya.
If you’d like to use public transportation to reach Kas after arriving at the Antalya Airport, you can take the tramway from the Airport to the bus station. This tramway starts running at 6:00 and continues until 23:00. This journey takes approximately 40 minutes. You can pay 5 TL at the machines near the tramway entrance to get an ‘Antalya Kart’. This will allow you to use the tramway and the city’s other public transportation.
The tram stops at the bus station. You can access the bus station from the tram stop using elevators or escalators, no need to worry about carrying your bags. Once inside the bus station, head to the regional terminal and buy a ticket to Kas, or make a reservation beforehand.
You can also rent a car from the airport and drive to Kas. There are many companies to choose from; you can choose any car you’d like and reach Kas this way.
Getting to Kas in a Private Vehicle
The best way to get to Kas is to rent a car or hit the road in your own car. The road passing through Kemer, Kumluca, and Finike is full of beautiful views. After Finike, the road twists and winds along the coast. Although this can make driving a pain, this seaside road is absolutely beautiful.
Driving along the edge of seaside cliffs, you’ll pass many small beaches. Make sure you swimsuit is easily accessible because you’ll want to stop at every one. They are all free. The water is turquoise and incredibly clear.
Another alternative is taking the inland road from Antalya, passing over the Taurus Mountains to reach Kas. This road is 187 km long.
The distance between Istanbul and Kas is 860 kilometers and the drive takes 9 hours. On the way from Ankara, if you turn at the Korkuteli Junction and head to Kas via Elmali and Gombe, you’ll cut 100 km off of the drive when compared to the seaside route.
